How Egbin Power’s scholarship programme drives academic excellence

After examining the Egbin Power’s 11-year scholarship programme, Community leaders and stakeholders have described the firm’s drive for education development through the initiative as an opportunity for students in its host communities to learn while easing the burden on families and inspiring young people to pursue academic excellence.

They said the scholarship had continued to encourage students to aim higher academically while reinforcing Egbin Power’s commitment to community development.

At the programme’s latest award ceremony, held at the Egbin Power Clubhouse Auditorium, they praised the power generation company for sustaining the initiative, describing it as a lasting investment in the education and future of young people.

The Odofin of Ijede, Babatunde Ogunmuyiwa, who represented the Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, Oba Adefarasin Hassan, praised the company for sustaining the programme and its impact on students and their families.

“This scholarship has changed the story for many students and families in our communities. It inspires our young people to work hard and dream higher,” he said.

Ogunmuyiwa expressed appreciation to Egbin Power’s management and staff for ensuring the continuity of the initiative, describing its sustained implementation as a boost to educational aspirations in the host communities.

Similarly, Wahab Bello, speaking on behalf of the six Community Liaison Officers representing the host communities, commended the power generation company for its investment in education and community development.

He urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity by remaining committed to their studies and striving for academic excellence.

“Egbin Power has demonstrated that it cares about the future of our children and the development of our communities,” Bello said, adding that the scholarship programme had become an important part of the company’s engagement with its host communities.

The Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding access to education and promoting lifelong learning as drivers of sustainable development.

He described the scholarship scheme as a long-term investment in young people who would become future professionals, leaders and agents of change.

“Education is one of the strongest tools for change. The scholarship programme is a deliberate, long-term investment in young people who will become the leaders, professionals, and change-makers of tomorrow,” Bounour said.

He added that the company remained committed to creating sustainable opportunities that deliver lasting benefits beyond its core power-generation operations.

The beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the company and their communities, describing the awards as motivation to pursue their academic ambitions.

A student from the community, Royalty Olasunkanmi, was named top scholar in the Host Community Category, encouraged fellow students to work harder and aspire to qualify for the programme.

Mercy, who emerged as Top Scholar in the Academic Excellence Award Category, said the scholarship had strengthened her determination to achieve her educational goals.
