From Reality TV to Boxing: Phyna Celebrates Two Historic October 2 Victories

Big Brother Naija winner Phyna has marked the fourth anniversary of her reality TV victory, days after making history in the boxing ring.

Phyna, whose real name is Ijeoma Otabor, won the seventh season of Big Brother Naija, Level Up, on October 2, 2022.

Four years after her reality television triumph, the entertainer celebrated the anniversary by reflecting on another major milestone — her victory over Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing at Balmoral Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring event in Lagos.

Phyna defeated Nkechi Blessing by knockout in their scheduled four-round celebrity boxing bout at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Thursday.

In a message shared on Friday, Phyna described October 2 as a significant date in her life because it now represents both her BBNaija victory and her latest achievement in boxing.

She said her move from reality television into the boxing ring reflected her willingness to challenge herself and push beyond expectations.

Phyna also dedicated the victory to women who have been told they could not achieve certain things, saying her experience was an example of breaking barriers.

The former reality TV winner thanked Balmoral Promotions and Bet9ja for giving her the opportunity to participate in the event.

She reportedly received ₦50 million for winning the celebrity boxing contest and indicated that she could pursue boxing beyond the exhibition bout.

Following her victory, Phyna also called out Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia as a potential future opponent.

Etinosa, who watched the fight from ringside, accepted the challenge and said she was ready for the proposed contest.

Phyna’s victory was one of several major moments at the Chaos in the Ring event. Skit maker Carter Efe defeated musician Speed Darlington by technical knockout in another celebrity bout.

The event also featured a professional championship fight, with Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah defeating Nigerian champion Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by unanimous decision to win the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.

For Phyna, October 2 now carries significance beyond her BBNaija success, as the date has become associated with both her reality television breakthrough and a new chapter in her boxing journey.
