Shakiru Adeleye of the Lagos State Television (LTV), who covers the Lagos State House of Assembly, has emerged champion in the men’s table tennis competition at the 2026 Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Media Games.
Adeleye defeated Opeyemi Badmus of the Ministry of Information and Strategy Chapel in two straight sets, winning 11-7, 11-5 to claim the gold medal.
The competition, which attracted members of the union, was held at the Lagos NUJ Secretariat, Iyala, Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, October 7.
Adeleye, who has consistently won medals in table tennis at the NUJ Media Games over the years, expressed appreciation to the organisers, participants, NUJ executives, members and his supporters for their encouragement.
Speaking after the competition, the champion said that the victory was made possible by God’s grace and praised the organisers for using sports to promote unity among journalists.
He said, “I want to thank the organisers of the event, the players, the executive members of the union, all the members and my supporters.”
Adeleye added, “The victory was made possible through the grace of God, and I believe that the game is a way of uniting the members of the union.”
He promised to remain committed to the sport and continue working hard to maintain his performance in future competitions.
“I will not take this for granted, and I will continue to work hard to keep winning in future competitions,” he said.
The annual NUJ Media Games is designed to provide journalists and media practitioners with an opportunity to engage in sporting activities while promoting camaraderie, healthy competition and unity among members of the union.
