“She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country” — Kamo State addresses Funke Akindele rumours

Nigerian skitmaker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has addressed speculation surrounding Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele’s absence from the premiere of his debut cinema film, Star Lomo.

The movie premiere held in Lagos on Sunday, September 20, but Akindele was notably absent, prompting some social media users to question whether there was a disagreement between the actress and her protégé.

Kamo State, however, has dismissed the speculation, explaining that Akindele was outside Nigeria at the time of the premiere.

Kamo State speaks on Funke Akindele

In a statement shared on X on Monday, Kamo State said, “I woke up to see different opinions online about Iyamii and myself. Please, we’re on good terms.”

The skitmaker further clarified that Akindele’s absence had nothing to do with their relationship.

He said, “She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it, so please don’t assume otherwise.”

Kamo added that he had already discussed the premiere with Akindele and expected her to support the film.

Why Funke Akindele’s absence sparked speculation

The speculation came amid reports that Kamo and Akindele have appeared less frequently together in recent months.

Their relationship became more prominent during the production and promotion of Everybody Loves Jenifa in 2024, with Akindele supporting Kamo’s projects and featuring him in other productions.

Akindele was reportedly in Ghana around the time of the premiere with singer Waje, who is part of her forthcoming film, The Four.

Kamo’s clarification has now provided his explanation for the actress’ absence, while asking the public to focus on his new movie rather than speculate about their personal relationship.
