The Oyo Police Command has arrested two suspected drug peddlers after uncovering eight parcels of suspected Canadian Loud concealed inside a vehicle tyre in their possession.
The suspects were allegedly using a vulcaniser’s workshop as a hideout to package and conceal the illicit substance in the tyre before its distribution.
As learnt, the law enforcement agency stormed the vulcaniser premises following intelligence received by the command about the activities of a suspected drug dealer operating around the axis in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement on Saturday, said operatives from the Anti-Narcotics Section and the State Criminal Investigation Department were deployed to the location on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga.
Ayanlade said the police secured the cooperation of the vulcaniser, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and recovery of the suspected drugs.
“A vulcanising machine allegedly used in concealing the substance was also seized as an exhibit. And upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective involvement in the act and are currently assisting the police with the ongoing investigation,” Ayanlade stated.
The police spokesman said detectives were working to identify and arrest other members of the suspected drug network, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted after the investigation.
Meanwhile, he warned that illicit drugs could worsen criminal activities by impairing judgment and contributing to offences including cultism, robbery, kidnapping and other forms of organised crime.
However, Ayanlade urged residents to provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in dismantling criminal networks and improving safety across the state.
