The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed five hospitality establishments and three other facilities across the state over persistent violations of environmental laws.
According to the agency, the facilities, located in Baruwa-Ipaja, Mushin, Maryland, Anthony Village, Anthony and Gbagada, were sealed over noise pollution and non-compliance with the agency’s directives.
The affected establishments include Hollysee Hotel Suites, Hotel Tropicana Ltd, Optimum Lounge, Sylvalink Hotel, Ivory Exclusive Hotel, All Samod Global & Event Centre, Print Factory and Queen India.
Announcing the enforcement action in a statement on Tuesday, LASEPA said the exercise was part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental standards, protect public health and ensure compliance with existing regulations.
The agency said the affected establishments were sealed only after several engagements and opportunities to comply failed to yield the desired results, stressing that the action underscored its resolve to hold violators accountable.
Speaking on the enforcement operation, LASEPA’s General Manager, Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health through the strict enforcement of environmental laws.
Ajayi described environmental compliance as a shared responsibility among businesses, residents and other stakeholders.
He urged operators of hospitality facilities and members of the public to embrace responsible environmental practices and adhere to all regulatory requirements, warning that the agency would intensify monitoring and enforcement against facilities that continue to flout environmental regulations.
