The Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, Ahmed Sani II, CON, has died in Egypt after a prolonged illness.
The monarch died while undergoing medical treatment after battling the illness for an extended period after the condition had required medical attention outside Nigeria before he eventually passed away.
It was gathered that Sani II died on Thursday in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, where he had been receiving treatment. His death occurred after he spent nearly 46 years on the throne of the Gumel Emirate.
Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, announced the emir’s death in a condolence message shared, described the late monarch scholar, a beacon of wisdom and a father to his people.
Pantami said Sani II dedicated his life to serving his subjects, promoting peace and education, and preserving the cultural values of the Gumel Emirate.
Pantami extended his condolences to the late emir’s immediate family, the Gumel Emirate Council, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, the Jigawa State Government and the people of the state.
He also prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and asked God to grant the family and the people of Gumel and Jigawa State the strength to bear the loss.
Sani II ascended the throne on December 16, 1980, and remained Emir of Gumel until his death, bringing to a close one of the longest traditional reigns in Jigawa State.
