The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, FUTO, Ikechukwu Dozie, has raised alarm over an alleged impersonation on his Facebook account warning the perpetrators to desist from the act or be ready to face the wrath of the law.
Dozie, in a statement by the varsity’s Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, disclosed that he doesn’t have an account on the social media platform, adding that the account is fake; as well as notifying the public to shun any information released on the created account.
In the Thursday released communique, the management advised the public not to engage with, respond to or send money or gifts of personal details to anyone who operates the account.
“The attention of the Management of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has been drawn to a Facebook account using a name and photograph purporting to represent the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie,” it reads.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-Chancellor does not operate any personal Facebook account. Consequently, any Facebook account claiming to belong to Prof. I.N.S. Dozie is fake, and has no connection whatsoever with the Vice-Chancellor.
“The public is, accordingly, advised to beware of fraudsters using fake accounts to scam unsuspecting individuals. Please, do not engage with, respond to, or send money, gifts, or personal details to anyone operating such accounts.
This institution disclosed that it had warned social media users not to engage with the purported account and to report it immediately to Facebook management.
