At least four people have been killed in fresh attacks on communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, with a 55-year-old man reportedly beheaded in one of the incidents.
The attacks occurred across four communities between Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, 2026, according to the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) and reports by Nigerian newspapers. One other person was also injured in the attacks.
The first reported incident occurred in Kikyau, Mangu Halle District, on Friday, where 55-year-old Geoffrey Gumut was killed. The Mwaghavul Youth Movement said his head had not been recovered as of the time of its statement.
On Saturday night, 29-year-old Katbam Titus was killed in an attack on Kinat community. The youth group said the incident occurred only hours after the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, visited Mangu and held a security meeting with Mwaghavul and Fulani leaders.
Two other victims, identified as 50-year-old Pius Dachen and 25-year-old Zadok Irmiya, were killed in Ntul, Mangu District, during the same period.
In a separate incident in Larkas, Panyam District, 45-year-old Danjuma Kyesle was reportedly attacked with a machete and seriously injured. He was receiving medical treatment when the community group issued its statement.
The Mwaghavul Youth Movement condemned the attacks and expressed concern over the security situation in the affected communities. It called on the Federal Government, Plateau State Government and security agencies to strengthen protection for residents and investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence.
The group also questioned how the attacks could have occurred shortly after the Army’s security engagement with community leaders. It urged authorities to investigate any allegations of negligence or failure of duty by security personnel.
The Nigerian Army has not, in the reports reviewed, publicly confirmed responsibility for the killings or the specific circumstances surrounding the individual attacks.
The latest violence adds to continuing security concerns in Mangu and other parts of Plateau State, where attacks involving communities and armed groups have repeatedly resulted in deaths, injuries and displacement.
Security agencies are expected to investigate the incidents and work to prevent further attacks in the affected communities.
