Cross River varsity exposes impostor soliciting money from students

The management of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, has raised the alarm over an individual allegedly impersonating a staff member of the institution and soliciting money from students to alter or improve their examination results.

The management urged students to disregard any request for payment or personal information from the suspected impostor, particularly offers to facilitate the alteration, improvement or manipulation of examination results.

The university, in a notice issued by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Okon, on Tuesday identified the impersonator as “Prof. Odong” and said he was allegedly posing as a staff member of the institution’s Information and Communication Technology unit.

According to the notice, the individual, who reportedly uses the telephone number 08144115929, is not a staff member of the university, contrary to his claims.

It also warned students against divulging their personal details, examination information, passwords and other academic records to unknown persons.

It said such information could be exploited for fraudulent activities, advising students who receive suspicious messages or approaches concerning the alleged impostor to report them to the appropriate university authorities.

The institution reiterated its zero tolerance for academic fraud, impersonation and other unethical practices, urging students to use only recognised and official channels for matters concerning their academic records and examination results.

The management further urged students to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to individuals who may seek to exploit concerns over examination results for financial gain.
