The management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has banned cult-related activities and signing-out ceremonies within the university premises.
It also warned students involved in cultism, violence, intimidation and other forms of misconduct that they would face severe disciplinary action, including rustication.
The warning was contained in a circular issued yesterday and signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Stella-Maris Okey.
The management said the decision followed a suspected cult-related clash involving students on Tuesday, September 8, around the New Cafe area of the university.
According to the circular, the incident reportedly involved some students chasing members of another group with cutlasses within the university premises.
“Management frowns at this act of violence and warns all students to desist from cult-related activities, including intimidation, and any form of misconduct within or around the university premises,” the circular stated.
The university said any student found involved in such activities would face severe disciplinary action in line with its regulations and students’ handbook.
It added that students found culpable would be handed over to appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution, while also facing rustication from the university.
Meanwhile, the management specifically warned final-year students against conducting any form of signing-out activity on campus ahead of the 2025/2026 second-semester examinations.
It warned that students whose signing-out activities breached university rules or posed a threat to peace, safety and security would face disciplinary action and could be handed over to security agencies.
The management urged students to maintain good conduct, peace and discipline and avoid acts capable of bringing themselves, their colleagues or the university into disrepute.
It also wished the students a successful, peaceful and hitch-free second-semester examination.
