Chelle Back in Nigeria, Eyes AFCON Qualifiers, Olympic Stars

By Samuel Akpan

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has returned to Nigeria, joining fellow coaches and key football stakeholders at the ongoing CAF A Coaching Course in Abuja.

Spotted at the venue on Wednesday, Chelle’s presence comes as he outlines his roadmap for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and begins evaluating the talent pipeline for the next Olympic generation.

Beyond the senior squad, he is keeping tabs on young Nigerian prospects who could wear the colours at the 2028 Olympic football qualifiers.

As part of his domestic talent hunt, Chelle plans to attend a local league match this week to evaluate U-23 prospects competing in the NPFL.

Consistent with his stance on the importance of local pitches for developing national team talent, this scouting effort aims to expand Nigeria’s pool of home-based players for both the Olympic qualifiers and the senior squad.

With the AFCON series drawing closer, his stay should tighten Super Eagles planning, and the league stops give rising players a clearer door into national reckoning.
