At least 13 terrorists or the Lakurawa insurgency group have been killed during an enforcement against criminal activities carried out by operatives of the Nigerian Army, in Kebbi State.
The troops of Section 2 FANSAN YAMMA killed the terrorists after overpowering them in a gun duel and recovered weapons, ammunition and motorcycles used by the gang, other members of the group were forced to abandon their positions and escape into the forest.
The encounter which ensued at Gumki area of Arewa Dandi Local Government, the troops subsequently conducting a follow-up search of the area, leading to the recovery of a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition, as revealed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Sector 2, Olaniyi Osoba.
Osoba mentioned that the recovered ammunition included 7.62 x 54mm belted rounds and 7.62mm Special ammunition. Four motorcycles, two smartphones and N87,000 in cash were also found.
Other combat and miscellaneous items were recovered during the operation, further disrupting the terrorists’ ability to operate in the area.
The Army said its troops remained deployed in the area to sustain pressure on the terrorists and protect communities within the operational zone.
It added that troops would continue to dominate the general area as part of efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves and improve security across the affected communities.
