THE Accountant-General’s team has emerged winner of the 2026 Kogi Civil Service Week novelty football match organised by the Office of the Head of Service.
The novelty match featured teams representing the Accountant-General’s Office and the Office of the Head of Service.
The encounter ended goalless at regulation time, forcing both teams into a penalty shootout to determine the winner on Saturday, in Lokoja.
At the end of the shootout, the Accountant-General’s team defeated the Head of Service’s team 3-1 to emerge champions.
The trophy was presented to the captain of the Accountant-General’s team as part of activities marking the 2026 Civil Service Week.
Medals were also presented to players and officials of both teams in recognition of their participation.
The Head of Service, Hajiya Falilat Musa, was present at the match to provide moral support to the participating teams.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, congratulated the Head of Service for organising the novelty match.
The commissioner said the match was not about victory or defeat but an avenue to promote unity and physical fitness among civil servants.
He urged the workers to return to their duties with renewed commitment, stressing the need to contribute to making Kogi great again.
The novelty match was organised as part of activities lined up for the 2026 Kogi Civil Service Week celebration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was attended by Accountant-General’s representatives, some permanent secretaries, directors and other civil servants. (NAN)
