Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has proceeded on vacation after spending more than 30 consecutive days commissioning completed projects, flagging off new developments and inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, disclosed this in a post shared on X on Monday.
Wike takes break after busy project schedule
Olayinka said Wike had spent the past month engaged in a series of official activities across the nation’s capital as the FCT Administration continued its push to deliver infrastructure projects.
According to him, the minister’s engagements were not limited to the commissioning of completed projects, as he also participated in groundbreaking ceremonies for new developments and inspected several ongoing projects.
The aide said Wike also reviewed the progress of various infrastructure projects, particularly those expected to be completed and commissioned in December and January next year.
“Holiday time for Nyerisi. He is somewhere in the world, relaxing after spending over 30 days, commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January, next year,” Olayinka wrote.
The statement suggests that the minister’s vacation followed an extended period of intensive official engagements involving project monitoring and commissioning activities.
Minister focuses on infrastructure delivery
Since assuming office as FCT minister, Wike has made infrastructure development a major focus of his administration, with several road, transportation and public infrastructure projects receiving attention.
The former Rivers State governor has frequently visited project sites across Abuja to assess the pace and quality of work being carried out by contractors.
The FCT Administration has also continued to announce the completion and commissioning of major infrastructure projects as part of efforts to improve connectivity and ease movement within the capital.
Wike’s project inspections have often been accompanied by directives to contractors to meet agreed timelines and ensure that projects are delivered according to specifications.
His administration has particularly prioritised road construction and rehabilitation, with several projects linking different districts and satellite communities across the FCT.
Wike appointed FCT minister in 2023
Wike was appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023, following his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
Since his appointment, he has remained one of the prominent members of the Federal Government, while his activities in Abuja have largely centred on infrastructure development and urban renewal.
His latest vacation comes after a prolonged period of commissioning ceremonies, project inspections and groundbreaking events.
Olayinka did not disclose the location of Wike’s holiday or how long the minister would remain away from his official duties.
However, the aide indicated that work on projects scheduled for completion later in the year and in January would continue to receive attention.
The minister is expected to return to his official responsibilities after the break as the FCT Administration continues preparations for the commissioning of additional projects.
