Popular actor and filmmaker Samuel Jemitalo has stirred reactions online after sharing his opinion on why many top Nollywood actresses were absent from Peller and Jarvis’ traditional wedding, claiming they only attend events where influential billionaires and prominent personalities are present.
Speaking in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he argued that A-list actresses are more likely to honour invitations to high-profile gatherings where they have the opportunity to network with wealthy business moguls and other members of society’s elite.
According to him, the biggest cash gift he noticed at Peller’s wedding was $20,000 from Mr. Gregory, adding that such an amount is only enough to appreciate some actresses for attending an event.
In his words, he said:
“You can never see the top Nollywood actresses at Peller’s marriage. You know why? Because there are no oil moguls there. They only go to events where they will see the who is who in society.
The highest donor at Peller’s marriage, to my notice so far, is Mr. Gregory. He gave Peller $20,000. That $20,000 is what they give these Nollywood actresses just to say, ‘Thank you for coming.’ That’s not even their full package.”
Jemitalo further alleged that fame and acting provide some actresses with access to influential people, claiming they use the entertainment industry as a platform to build relationships with society’s elite.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians disagreeing with his claims while others shared their opinions on the relationship between celebrity status and social circles.
