Ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged residents to reject the return of the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that his administration would not allow the state to return to what he described as the era of half salaries and hardship for civil servants.
Adeleke’s remarks come despite his recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid alongside members of the Accord Party.
In a statement, Adeleke appealed to the people of the state to remain steadfast ahead of the August 15 governorship election, saying only a few days remain before they decide the state’s future.
The governor accused the APC of “weaponising poverty” during its time in office by paying workers half salaries, leaving many civil servants unable to adequately cater for their families.
“Those who once weaponized poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain,” he said.
Adeleke urged voters not to allow the state to return to what he called its “dark days,” insisting that his administration has placed Osun on the path of progress, compassion and good governance.
“We must never go back to those dark days,” the governor said.
He called on eligible voters to turn out on election day and vote to protect what he described as the mandate of the people.
“On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance.
“Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward,” Adeleke added.
