Atletico Madrid have reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, despite the Nigerian striker being made available for a reported transfer fee of €75 million.
According to Club Uria, as reported by Goal, the Spanish club decided against pursuing the deal even though Osimhen was reportedly willing to reduce his salary to secure a move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
The report stated that Galatasaray, through intermediaries, approached Atletico Madrid with the possibility of signing the 27-year-old Super Eagles forward during the ongoing transfer window.
However, Los Rojiblancos reportedly turned down the proposal.
One of the major reasons cited for the decision is Atletico Madrid’s financial situation, with the club said to lack the resources required to complete a transfer worth around €75 million.
The report also noted that manager Diego Simeone already has Julián Álvarez as his preferred central striker, making another high-profile signing in the same position unnecessary.
Although Osimhen currently earns a lucrative salary in Turkey—boosted by tax incentives available to foreign players—he was reportedly prepared to accept lower wages to play under Simeone.
The reported willingness to take a pay cut was seen as a sign of the Nigerian international’s interest in joining the La Liga giants.
Despite that interest, Atletico Madrid remain committed to their current squad plans and are not expected to revisit the move.
Osimhen remains under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, leaving his immediate future in Istanbul unless another club meets the Turkish champions’ valuation.
