Haruna Bashir, the victim whose wife, Fatima Abubakar, and six children were killed by a 23-year old nephew is one of the beneficiaries of the mass wedding conducted by the Kano state government.
The marriage organised by the Hizba (Shari’a enforcement agency) took place on Friday at the Emire’s palace mosque in Kano.
There are 1,500 couples benefiting from the mass wedding sponsored by the Kano state government that has taken place across the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state, Blueprint.ng reports.
During the wedding, the Kano state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, stood in for Bashir as the groom’s guardian, while the Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II stood in for the bride, as her guardian.
During the marriage ceremony, conducted according to Islamic rights, that requires dowry, guardian, witnesses, proclamation of marriage vows (called Siga) as well as the bride and groom, N300,000 was paid as dowry.
The other wedding ceremonies took place across the 44 LGAs of the state where the district heads represented the Emire as guardians of the brides and the local government chairmen represented governor Yusuf as the guardians to the grooms.
On 17, 2026, a very sad incident took place at Dorayi Charanchi Quarters of Kano metropolis where, a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and six of her children were allegedly, brutally murdered by her husband’s nephew, Umar Awwalu.
Since the incident, the Kano state governor has given the husband a house while a large sum of money was raised for him to continue a life after the losses he suffered.
