Verizon down update: Thousands complain of network and tower outage; ‘not able to make calls right now’
Verizon services appeared to be down for a number of users on Thursday, August 13. Several users complained they were unable to place calls over the network, wondering if Verizon towers were down.
At the time of writing, Downdetector, which tracks outages showed over 2,000 people facing issues.
According to the site, Verizon users have been facing issues since 12:08am ET.
Why is Verizon down? When will services be back up?
Verizon has not issued a statement about the current problems their customers are facing. It remains unknown when the situation will be resolved. A couple of days back, on August 10, Verizon noted that an act of vandalism in Southern California had hampered services.

“Vandals cut multiple fiber cables, causing mobile and internet disruptions in parts of Southern California. Repairs are underway, and we expect service to be restored in the next couple of hours. Law enforcement is engaged. We appreciate your patience as our teams work quickly to restore service,” they had written. However, it is unclear if the current issue is anyhow linked to this incident.
Verizon down: Users complain about outage
Several users complained about the Verizon outage. One person wrote on the Downdetector comment section “Calling Michigan, dead air then ‘Call Failed’.” Another added “Grand Rapids Michigan. No internet, cell service for Verizon business since 10 pm eastern time.” Yet another said “Can’t call or text again.”
Many such complaints were made on X as well. “Is anyone with Verizon not able to make calls right now? I had no bars a few mins ago,” one asked. Another added “Hey is anyone else on @Verizon experiencing spotty coverage and calls dropping right now?”. Yet another said “@Verizon what is going on and why does my voice service keep continuing to go out?”.
One person said this was a reason to get landlines back and wrote “Verizon cellular issues, anyone? I know they were out earlier, but mine is out now. Big reason to get a landline back???”.
As complaints mounted, Verizon replied to a frustrated user saying “Going without working service is completely unacceptable, and we want to take ownership to get this fixed for you right now. Send us a direct message, so we can check the network in your area and get you reconnected!”.
Amid reported issues with the Verizon network, many complained about Straight Talk being down as well. “Is @Verizon down and by extension @MyStraightTalk as well?,” one asked, with Downdetector showing hundreds facing issues with Straight Talk.
