U.S. President Donald Trump says he intends to halt further military action against Iran to allow diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the months-long conflict.
Trump said the decision followed progress toward a framework for a peace agreement, adding that further strikes would be suspended if negotiations succeeded.
He said the proposed deal would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending attacks in the region and resuming negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly urged Trump to prioritise dialogue and avoid further escalation, warning that expanded military action could destabilise the Middle East.
Regional mediators, including Qatar and Oman, are working with U.S. and Iranian officials to secure a ceasefire and restore stability in the Gulf.
Iran has denied requesting a halt in hostilities but maintained that it remains prepared to respond to any fresh military attack.
The conflict has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and heightened concerns over global energy supplies, prompting renewed international calls for a diplomatic settlement.
