Trump eyes call for capital gains tax cuts ahead of midterm elections: Report

US President Donald Trump is on the lookout for fresh policy pledges he can present voters before the midterm election, news agency Bloomberg reported, citing a top economic aide and a former administration official. This includes potentially calling on Congress to reduce capital gain taxes and call for an exemption for certain home sales, the report added.

Kevin Hassett, the national economic council director, on Tuesday in an interview with Fox Business host Larry Kudlow, stated that Trump wants to give voters more incentives to back his Republican party in the upcoming midterm elections in November, Bloomberg reported.

Kudlow had led the council during Trump’s first term as President and remains an ally. He said he recently spoke with Trump regarding indexing capital gains, meaning taxes would be put on gains adjusted for inflation. He added suggested exemptions for sales of homes worth up to $2 million from capital gains taxes and added that “the boss is very interested” in these ideas.

Hassett said Trump is looking at new ideas to boost his party with voters.

Hassett said Trump wants to hit people with the promises that they are going to do if they Republicans continue to have power in the future. He said one can expect a lot more policy between now and the midterm elections as they have been talking about and then pointed at Larry saying he is sure Trump has been talking to him (Larry) about the latter’s “great ideas on capital gains”.
