South Africa’s Consul-General in Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, has provided assurances that the country remains a secure and welcoming destination for Nigerian tourists, business travellers and other visitors.
Moroe made the statement during a media interview, addressing concerns circulating among some Nigerians regarding travel safety, particularly in response to social media reports and commentary.
The Consul-General emphasised that South Africa maintains an open-door policy for Nigerian nationals and refuted allegations that South African diplomatic missions in Nigeria have ceased visa issuance.
He stated that travellers planning to visit should obtain necessary travel permits and adhere to the country’s immigration regulations.
Moroe stressed the importance of Nigerian visitors serving as effective ambassadors by familiarising themselves with South African laws and understanding their rights within the country’s legal framework.
He advised travellers to exercise practical caution by becoming acquainted with their surroundings, including locations of law enforcement agencies that could provide assistance if circumstances warrant intervention.
Moroe noted that visa applications from Nigerians have nearly doubled, indicating sustained and growing interest in visiting South Africa across various purposes.
He expressed confidence that this upward trend will persist, with the South African mission remaining assured of continued Nigerian visitation.
