THE Super Falcons on Saturday defeated the Corper Queens of Zambia 1 – 0, to resurrect their hopes of defending their title as WAFCON champions.
In their first game of the championship, the country’s senior women’s national team surprisingly lost 2-3 to debutants, Malawi.
Expectedly, that lost casted doubts on the chances of the team to go far and possibly win a dream 11th WAFCON title.
However, some genuinely concerned Nigerian football followers and stakeholders, remained stoical in their belief in the team to bounce back to reckoning.
Speaking with journalists from faraway Glasgow, venue of the Commonwealth games, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, expressed delight on the victory of the Super Falcons.
“I’ve always believed in the abilities of our women. And I knew they would bounce back. And yes, they did it in the never-say-die style of Nigerians. It was really tough against Zambia. But our beautiful women won, even with 10 players.
“However, I know that they’re equally aware that it’s not uhuru yet. They need to go ahead next week to beat Egypt.
“C’omom, lets go again, Super Falcons,” Adeboye charged.
