Major League Soccer side Atlanta United have stepped up their interest in Romelu Lukaku after opening discussions with the Belgian striker’s representatives over a possible move from Napoli this summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the American club has made an initial approach to explore the conditions of a deal, with Lukaku willing to consider the proposal as he weighs up the next stage of his career.
The 33-year-old’s future at Napoli has become increasingly uncertain following changes in the club’s attacking plans, with the Serie A champions now prepared to listen to offers for the experienced forward.
Napoli sets transfer valuation
While Atlanta United’s interest is genuine, any deal will depend on reaching an agreement with Napoli, who are reportedly unwilling to sanction Lukaku’s departure for less than €10 million.
The Italian club is said to be determined to avoid making a financial loss on the striker and is expected to hold firm on its valuation during negotiations.
Lukaku is still due to report for Napoli’s pre-season preparations, but club officials are also waiting for a formal bid before making a final decision on his future.

Lukaku is understood to be looking for a club where he can play a leading role after seeing his place in Napoli’s attack come under threat.
