THE Scottish Football Association is reportedly nearing the appointment of a new head coach to replace Steve Clarke.
Clarke resigned after Scotland’s group-stage exit from the 2026 World Cup, despite signing a new four-year contract in May. His departure ended a seven-year spell in charge.
SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland are leading the search, with candidates from both the UK and abroad considered.
Interviews have already been conducted, and the association is now believed to be close to making an appointment.
It remains unclear whether Clarke’s successor will be Scottish or a foreign coach.
Scotland’s next competitive fixtures come in the Nations League, beginning with an away match against Slovenia on 26 September.
Former Scotland assistant Steven Naismith has indicated that he expects to remain part of the national-team setup under the new manager. (BBC)
