ENGLAND captain Nat Sciver-Brunt struck an unbeaten 67 as Trent Rockets secured a place in the knockout stage of The Hundred women’s competition with a nine-wicket victory over MI London at The Oval.
Sciver-Brunt smashed nine fours and a six from 36 balls as the Rockets chased down MI London’s 121-5 with 18 balls to spare.
Her innings was her first half-century of this year’s competition and her 11th in The Hundred.
She shared an unbeaten second-wicket partnership of 118 with Australia’s Beth Mooney, who contributed 54 from 44 balls.
The victory moved Trent Rockets four points clear of second-placed Southern Brave, who were scheduled to face Manchester Super Giants later on Saturday.
The Rockets will meet Southern Brave in their final group-stage fixture, with the result potentially determining which team progresses directly to the final.
Earlier, Samantha Bates claimed three wickets for 13 runs to restrict MI London to 121-5 from their 100 balls.
Bates dismissed Hayley Matthews for 10 before striking twice in successive deliveries to leave MI London struggling at 49-4.
She trapped Kira Chathli leg before wicket for 31, before Nicola Carey was stumped off the next ball following a sharp piece of wicketkeeping by Mooney.
Bates appeared to have completed a hat-trick when Alice Monaghan was initially given out lbw, but the decision was overturned on review after the ball was found to be sliding down the leg side.
Monaghan and Chinelle Henry then mounted a late recovery, both finishing unbeaten on 27 from 21 balls.
Their efforts lifted MI London to 121-5, but the total proved insufficient as Sciver-Brunt and Mooney guided Trent Rockets comfortably to victory.
The women’s fixture was followed by the men’s encounter between MI London and Trent Rockets.
Southern Brave were also scheduled to host Manchester Super Giants in a women’s fixture later in the day, followed by the corresponding men’s match. (BBC)
