BRIG.-Gen. S.K. Usman (rtd) has expressed sadness over the death of Mr Dotun Oladipo, former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).
Oladipo, Publisher of The Eagle Online, died on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
Usman, in a condolence message, described the deceased as an accomplished journalist, publisher, great friend and dependable professional.
He extended his condolences to Oladipo’s immediate family, GOCOP, The Eagle Online, journalism professionals and the wider Nigerian media community.
Usman said Oladipo had a profound understanding of journalism, publishing and the evolving digital media environment.
According to him, Oladipo was among those who recognised the growing importance of online media in Nigeria and contributed to its professional development.
He said Oladipo’s leadership of GOCOP from 2017 to 2021 came during a formative period in the growth of online publishing in Nigeria.
“Through his dedication, experience and commitment, he contributed significantly to strengthening the Guild, promoting professionalism and fostering greater cooperation among online publishers,” he said.
Usman said Oladipo’s contributions to GOCOP and online journalism would remain an enduring part of his legacy.
The retired general said the death of Oladipo was particularly painful to him because of their friendship and professional relationship.
He described him as a trusted professional colleague who was always available with wise counsel, support and reassuring words.
Usman recalled that during his tenure as Director, Army Public Relations, Oladipo was consistently supportive, accessible and professional.
“He demonstrated a deep understanding of the responsibilities of public communication and the demands of journalism,” he said.
He added that Oladipo remained a valued friend and colleague even after his retirement from the Nigerian Army.
According to him, the deceased was always willing to engage, share his thoughts and offer constructive advice.
Usman said Oladipo’s death had left a profound void in his family, GOCOP, the Nigerian media community and among professionals whose lives he touched.
He said Oladipo’s experience, passion for journalism, commitment to professional excellence and belief in a vibrant online media industry would be greatly missed.
Usman prayed that Almighty God would grant Oladipo’s family and all those mourning him the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
He also prayed that God would grant the soul of Oladipo eternal rest.
“May his memory remain a blessing, and may his contributions to Nigerian journalism and online publishing continue to inspire generations of media professionals,” Usman said.
