The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed a high-powered monitoring team to Osun State to oversee the conduct of police personnel during the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The Commission said the deployment was aimed at ensuring that police officers assigned to the election maintain discipline, professionalism and impartiality while discharging their duties.
The PSC, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the delegation would be led by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu, a Board Member and Chairman of the Commission’s Standing Committee on Police Matters.
The team is expected to monitor police conduct before, during and after the election, with particular attention to compliance with the principles guiding election duties.
According to the Commission, the deployment is part of efforts to deepen public confidence in the electoral process and ensure that police conduct remains impartial, rule-based and civil throughout the polls.
The PSC urged all police officers deployed to Osun to remain apolitical, demonstrate exemplary conduct and protect the rights of citizens to vote freely and peacefully.
It warned that officers found compromising the credibility of the election would face sanctions.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring professional policing during the August 15 governorship election.
