The Cross River State Police Command has rescued two teenagers from youths who threatened to lynch them over the alleged disappearance of a five-year-old boy in Bunyia-Irruan Community, Boki Local Government Area of the state.
The teenagers, identified as 17-year-old Suahnen Lorlumun and 17-year-old Sekeghshie Silas, were held by youths in the community following concerns over the whereabouts of the child.
Earlier reports from the community alleged that the teenagers were involved in the boy’s disappearance, while the child was later recovered.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Eitokpah Sunday, said the teenagers were brought to the Okubuchi Police Outpost by the Clan Head of Bunyia-Irruan for their safety.
The command said the two teenagers were later released into the custody of the clan head in the company of three officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons from Calabar.
The police did not confirm the teenagers’ involvement in the child’s disappearance.
