Police operatives have foiled an attack by armed bandits in Benue State, killing one of the suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of live ammunition.
The incident occurred yesterday at Tse Udi Community in Tombo Council Ward, after police tactical operatives were deployed to the area following reports of an attack by armed bandits.
The attackers reportedly engaged the operatives in a gun battle before retreating into the surrounding forest.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the operatives killed one of the attackers during the confrontation, while other members of the group fled into the forest.
An AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of live ammunition was subsequently recovered from the scene.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, for further investigation.
The police said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
