The Plateau State Police Command has arrested another suspect in connection with the death of a University of Jos student, Ibrahim Mbaya, as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue.
The latest arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation, with the police reiterating their commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the incident are brought to justice.
The suspect, Yusuf Beskeni, 24, was arrested following credible intelligence gathered by police detectives, the Command disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Beskeni allegedly played an active role in the assault on the deceased.
According to the police, the suspect participated in tying Mbaya to a pole while members of the mob subjected him to severe torture, which ultimately led to his death.
The Command said the suspect is currently in custody, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing suspects linked to the incident.
The Acting Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, DCP Usman Adamu, assured the family of the deceased and residents of the state that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that all those responsible for Mbaya’s torture and death face the full weight of the law.
