Plateau: Troops Arrest 4 Armed Militias, 2 Vandals, Recover Two Pistols
Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested six suspects in separate operations in Jos, Plateau State, recovering two locally fabricated pistols and disrupting the alleged vandalism of government-installed solar street lights.
In the first operation, troops of Sector 1, Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), arrested two suspected vandals allegedly caught tampering with solar street-light infrastructure in Jos East Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Isiyaku Mohammed, 22, and Ali Kazaure, 27, were arrested at about 4:20 p.m. on August 7 while troops of Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, were conducting a patrol along the road in Babawo village.
According to a military source, the troops intercepted the suspects while they were allegedly vandalising solar lighting infrastructure installed by the government.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Keystone Outpost, Babawo, for further investigation and appropriate action.
In a separate operation in Jos North Local Government Area, troops of Sector 1, Operation ENDURING PEACE, arrested four suspected armed militia members and recovered two locally fabricated pistols.
The operation followed a report received at about 11:55 a.m. on August 7 that criminals had allegedly robbed a woman’s son of his mobile phone at gunpoint in Anguwan Rukuba.
According to a military source, the troops responded swiftly to the report and arrested two suspects at the scene.
The arrested suspects subsequently assisted the troops in identifying and apprehending two other alleged members of the group, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in the operation to four.
The troops later conducted searches at the suspects’ residences, where they recovered two locally fabricated pistols.
The six suspects arrested in the separate operations are currently in custody as security agencies conduct further investigations into their alleged activities.
Authorities are also expected to determine whether the suspects are connected to other incidents of infrastructure vandalism, armed robbery or criminal activities reported in Jos and neighbouring communities.
The operations form part of ongoing security efforts to protect public infrastructure, disrupt criminal networks and maintain law and order across Plateau State.
