Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one-half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, became emotional while recalling a difficult period in his life when his then-girlfriend, Lola Omotayo, became pregnant.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, Peter said he was 27 years old when Lola conceived and decided to announce the pregnancy publicly to prevent the news from emerging through other sources.
According to the singer, he made the announcement while accepting an award at the Soundcity Awards, dedicating the recognition to God, fans and the mother of his unborn child.
“When I was 27 years old, my girlfriend then, Lola, became pregnant. I didn’t want the news to break from someone else, so I decided to announce it myself,” Peter said.
He explained that after making the announcement, his elder brother, Jude Okoye, and twin brother, Paul Okoye, allegedly reacted negatively and left the event.
Peter claimed they believed the announcement could harm the group’s career.
“Immediately after that, Jude and Paul walked out, saying my announcement would ruin our career,” he alleged.
The singer further alleged that they pressured Lola to terminate the pregnancy.
“They insisted that Lola should abort the baby. They even forged an email to frame her, claiming the child wasn’t mine and accusing her of using the pregnancy to trap me,” Peter claimed.
Peter made the allegations while reflecting on challenges he faced during his personal life and career with the now-defunct P-Square group.
The revelations come amid the long-running public dispute between the Okoye brothers over family, business and financial issues, some of which are currently the subject of ongoing legal proceedings.
