The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of promoting violent rhetoric and creating an atmosphere of fear ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party made the allegation while reacting to a viral video in which Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was allegedly heard threatening members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
In the video, Fadahunsi, an APC member, was reportedly heard saying, “So, we have come to tell you, up till the day of the election, if we see them, it is killing.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described the alleged remark as “uncivilised and appalling” and called for a transparent investigation into the incident.
The party said the comment was part of what it described as a broader pattern of warlike rhetoric from the APC, which it alleged had contributed to rising political tension and threatened peaceful elections.
The PDP also referenced previous statements attributed to APC leaders, arguing that such rhetoric could intimidate voters and opposition supporters and undermine confidence in the democratic process.
According to the party, elections should provide citizens with an opportunity to freely choose their leaders, rather than become contests in which political actors seek to gain power through threats, intimidation or violence.
“Furthermore, the President, APC, and their officials should cease the deployment of anti-democratic narratives and threats, all in the name of political communication,” the party said.
It also demanded investigations into the Fadahunsi incident and other threats to peaceful and transparent elections in Osun State, saying all political actors must be held accountable for conduct capable of undermining the electoral process.
The party urged political parties, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that voters are allowed to exercise their rights freely and without fear, stressing that election outcomes must reflect the genuine will of the people.
