Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected fake travel agent, Adejoke Ayomide, over alleged offences of defrauding more than 90 prospective travellers to the tune of ₦42.3 million through a fraudulent European visa scheme
Ayomide of age 33, was apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation by the Command stating that the female suspect collected the sum from the victims, promising to secure visas to Spain, Portugal and France but failed to process the travel documents.
The Police held that the victims collectively paid ₦42,326,000 into her Opay account for the purpose but later sought for legal intervention through Barrister Akindayomi Tobi & Associates which submitted a petition to the police on July 17, 2026, alleging that the Abeokuta, Ogun State resident fraudulently obtained the money under false pretence between October 2024 and April 5, 2026 and went AWOL.
Detectives of the command subsequently launched a detailed investigation, deploying intelligence gathering and forensic techniques to trace her movements and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged fraud.
The police said sustained intelligence-led operations eventually led to Ayomide’s arrest on August 5, 2026, during a coordinated operation carried out by detectives of the command.
Speaking on the development on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh said the suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful confessional statements during interrogation.
He stated that investigators are working to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud, identify possible accomplices and establish whether additional victims may have been affected.
Jimoh added the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting on the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the professionalism and resilience of the investigating officers, describing the arrest as another significant breakthrough in the command’s sustained crackdown on financial crimes.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that individuals involved in fraudulent activities are brought to justice.
The command also advised members of the public to exercise caution before engaging individuals or agencies for visa processing and overseas travel arrangements.
It urged prospective travellers to verify the authenticity and credentials of travel consultants before making payments and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting residents from fraud and other criminal activities while ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
