The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo state, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to withdraw a court order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun state government, describing the move as a bold affirmation of constitutional democracy and electoral fairness.
Ajulo, in a statement Thursday, said the president’s intervention demonstrated statesmanship and a commitment to ensuring that democratic institutions function in accordance with the rule of law, especially at a critical period preceding an electoral contest.
He said the directive sends a strong signal that justice must not only be served but must also be seen to be served, adding that the decision reflects restraint in the exercise of executive authority and strengthens public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions.
The Attorney General stated further that President Tinubu has once again shown that the credibility of any democratic government rests on public trust and the impartial application of the law rather than political expediency.
“By placing the sanctity of the democratic process above partisan interests, the president has reaffirmed that constitutional governance remains the cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy,” he said.
Ajulo noted that although strong institutions are indispensable to democratic governance, visionary leadership is equally necessary to ensure that such institutions exercise their powers within the limits of the constitution without compromising the sovereign will of the people.
He described the president’s directive as a timely reminder that the rule of law, constitutional governance and democratic legitimacy are mutually reinforcing principles that must always be protected in the national interest.
