The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has called on the state government, through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, to intensify efforts to contain the cholera outbreak currently affecting parts of the state.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the council’s congress held at the Council Secretariat, Bauchi and said the call became necessary following the recent confirmed cholera cases across 13 local government areas of the state.
The congress expressed profound appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed, for remodeling the NUJ state secretariat, describing it as one of the best-equipped council secretariats in the country.
The communiqué appealed to the state government to recruit additional staff, particularly casual workers, into state-owned media organisations to fill vacancies created by the retirement of personnel.
The congress also advised journalists in the state to remain security conscious, maintain professionalism and uphold non-partisanship in the coverage of political activities ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
