NIS Trains Airport Personnel to Boost Professionalism, Service Delivery
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has concluded a two-week capacity-building programme for personnel of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Command, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, operational efficiency and service delivery at the nation’s airports.
The training, which ran from July 28 to August 7, 2026, at the Shehu Shagari Conference Hall, NIS Headquarters, Abuja, is the first in a series of capacity-building programmes planned for NIS airport formations across the country.
The programme, themed “Repositioning NIS Airport Operations for Professional Excellence, Ethical Conduct and Enhanced Service Delivery,” was conducted under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the NIS Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the training was designed to equip personnel with practical knowledge and skills required to meet the evolving demands of modern airport operations.
The areas covered included passenger profiling, visa and entry verification, passenger and crew clearance, queue management, the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), e-Gates, apron operations, hostmanship, ethical conduct and anti-corruption practices.
The Service said the initiative was introduced in response to increasing passenger traffic, evolving airport operational requirements and the growing deployment of technology in border management.
It added that the programme was aimed at ensuring that immigration personnel possess the requisite competencies to identify and effectively address emerging operational challenges while maintaining professional standards.
The NIS said it would continue to improve its airport operations through sustained professional capacity development, innovation, accountability and adherence to global best practices.
According to the Service, the measures are intended to strengthen border security while enhancing the experience of international travellers passing through Nigeria’s airports.
