A Nigerian woman serving in the United States Army has appealed to US President Donald Trump to intervene in her daughter’s immigration case after the 10-year-old girl was reportedly denied a visa to join her mother in the United States.
The woman, identified as Uzamaka, made the appeal in a video shared on TikTok, saying she has been separated from her daughter for about a decade and is increasingly worried about the child’s deteriorating health.
Uzamaka said she had completed the required immigration process for her daughter, but the child has been unable to travel to the US because of visa restrictions.
Soldier fears losing critically ill daughter
According to Uzamaka, her daughter became critically ill while the family was waiting for the immigration process to be completed.
She said the child requires medical attention and expressed concern that she may not be able to access the level of healthcare she needs while remaining in Nigeria.
“Please do not scroll. I’m at the verge of losing my daughter. They said social media is powerful, and this is my last resort,” she said in the video.
The US Army member said the prolonged separation had been particularly difficult because she has not been able to reunite with her daughter despite completing the necessary immigration procedures.
‘I’m speaking as a mother’
Uzamaka said she had taken an oath to serve the United States and complied with the country’s laws, but stressed that her appeal was motivated by her concern as a mother.
“I’m not just speaking as a soldier; I’m speaking as a mother whose heart is gradually breaking. I have been separated from my daughter for the past 10 years, and she remains in Nigeria,” she said.
She added that every additional day apart increased her fear that she could lose the opportunity to reunite with her daughter.
“Every day that passes by increases my fear that I might lose her before having the chance to hold her again and reunite with her,” she said.
Soldier asks for humanitarian consideration
Uzamaka acknowledged the importance of US immigration laws and national security but urged the authorities to consider her situation on humanitarian grounds.
“My plea now is not about politics but a humanitarian one, a compassionate one that you should review carefully and consider. I’m simply asking that there should be an exception for me and for people that fall into this category,” she said.
She questioned how she could remain in a country with access to advanced healthcare while her critically ill daughter remained in Nigeria.
“How can I be in a country that has quality healthcare and let my daughter die?” she asked.
Senator, commander contacted over case
The soldier disclosed that she had sought assistance from her military commander and US Senator Amy Klobuchar.
According to Uzamaka, the senator attempted to intervene on her behalf but was informed that the immigration process was progressing according to the established procedure.
“I’ve reached out to my commander and Senator Amy Klobuchar. She tried her best, and they told her everything is going as planned. But your visa process and policies are keeping my children from reuniting with me,” she said.
Uzamaka also said she could not return to Nigeria because of security concerns.
She argued that her children should not be viewed as a security threat simply because they were seeking to join their mother in the United States.
“My kids are barely minors that can’t pose a threat and are not coming here to be criminals,” she said.
Appeals to Trump for intervention
The soldier said she had also contacted major American media organisations, including Fox News and CNN, in an attempt to draw attention to her daughter’s situation.
She said she had not received a response from the organisations at the time she recorded the appeal.
Uzamaka subsequently turned to social media, urging users to share her video widely and tag President Trump in the hope that the appeal would reach him.
She said she had exhausted other options and was now pleading directly with the US President to help her reunite with her daughter.
“I never thought a day would come that I would be facing the camera and pleading. Dear Mr President, please help me reunite with my daughter,” she said.
