A Chief Magistrate Court in Niger State has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Abubakar Danladi, to two years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for stealing a motorcycle in the Gidan-Kwano area of Minna.
Danladi was convicted after pleading guilty to a charge brought against him by the Niger State Police Command following his arrest in connection with the theft of the motorcycle, which was recovered shortly after the incident.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the motorcycle, a black TVS with registration number GWN 436 QB, was stolen on July 26, 2026, at about 1 p.m. after its owner parked it outside a lodge in Gidan-Kwano.
Following a report at the Kpakungu Police Division, operatives, working with local vigilante members, tracked the suspect to the Dama area via Gidan-Kwano, where he was arrested with the stolen motorcycle.
Abiodun said Danladi confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He added that the suspect was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court on July 30, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court subsequently convicted him and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.
The police spokesperson said the command remained committed to ensuring that criminal offences are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to deter others from engaging in criminal activities.
