Luigi Mangione in NYC court today — potentially for final appearance before bombshell murder trial

Luigi Mangione is set to appear in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday for what could be his final hearing before jury selection in his bombshell murder trial kicks off next month.

Mangione — the 28-year-old accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson — will attend the hearing in person in Manhattan Supreme Court.

It comes just a week after the accused killer urged the court to livestream his murder trial, an unusual move since broadcasts of New York criminal trials are typically banned.

His request also came with increasing media access to the trial, arguing that the court should show the trial on a live “overflow” feed within the courthouse so all people — journalists and members of the public — can follow the action live.

Justice Gregory Carro has not ruled on whether a courthouse overflow room will be used in the highly-anticipated trial.

Jury selection for Mangione’s state murder trial is set to start Sept. 8. He also faces a federal case.

The state court system has used an overflow room before for high-profile trials, most recently during President Trump’s historic trial over hush-money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, which took place in the same courthouse.

Mangione, a prep-school and Ivy League university grad, has pleaded not guilty to the cold-blooded killing of Thompson in what prosecutors called a targeted execution on a Midtown sidewalk in December 2024.
