As preparations for the 2027 Hajj intensify, the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has fixed the fare at N7,882,822 for intending pilgrims travelling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The 2027 fare represents a reduction of about N617,178 from the N8.5 million charged for the 2026 Hajj, bringing the cost down by approximately 7.3 per cent.
The Board Secretary, AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, disclosed this yesterday while speaking on The Conversation, a live programme on Lagos Television (LTV).
Ajomagberin attributed the reduction in the 2027 fare compared with the previous year to the efforts of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf.
“The credit for this reduction goes to the NAHCON Chairman, who since assuming office has pledged to work towards reducing the Hajj fare and making the exercise seamless for Nigerian pilgrims,” he said.
The Board Secretary also featured on live programmes on Radio Lagos and Eko FM, where he urged intending pilgrims to pay the fare on or before September 26, 2026, the deadline set by NAHCON.
He explained that early payment would enable the Board to secure travel documents within the timeframe stipulated by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
Ajomagberin reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to the welfare of pilgrims throughout their stay in the Holy Land.
He said the government would continue to provide standard accommodation close to the Haram, daily meals featuring local delicacies, comfortable local transportation and organised Ziyarah visits to historical sites in Makkah and Madinah.
The board secretary added that the state would also provide adequate medical care, Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) and support for the slaughtering of Hadayah rams, among other services for the pilgrims.
