Kidnappers kill APC ward chairman, one other in Kano

Two residents, including an All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairman, Garba Buba, have been killed after kidnappers attacked Rantan community in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

The gunmen opened fire on residents during the attack, killing Buba’s neighbour, Sulaiman Zunduma, at the scene, while the APC ward chairman sustained gunshot injuries and later died while receiving treatment at a hospital.

It was gathered on Monday that the attack occurred on Sunday night after the kidnappers invaded Buba’s residence at about 11 p.m.

A resident, Hamza Rantan, confirmed the incident to newsmen while mourning the two victims.

He said Buba was rushed to a hospital after he was shot but later died from his injuries.

He added that Zunduma was also hit by gunfire during the attack and died at the scene.

Rantan described the incident as a painful loss to the community and prayed for the forgiveness of the victims’ shortcomings.

“On Sunday night, kidnappers attacked our town, Rantan, where they shot Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC ward chairman, who later died in a hospital. They also killed another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma,” he said.

Meanwhile, the attack came shortly after the reported rescue of the Sarkin Noman of Kano State, Yusuf Chiromawa, who had been abducted by gunmen in Chiromawa community, Garun Malam Local Government Area.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano State, particularly following reports that several other residents were injured in the violence.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
