The Kano State House House of Assembly has suspended three council chairmen over yet to be disclosed reasons, stating that the trio would be out of office for the next three months.
Announcing the development on Tuesday, the lawmakers identified the affected persons as Basiru Kofa of Bebeji Local Government, Abba Buzu, Chairman of Rogo Local Government as well as Bello Gadanya of Bagwai council.

Announcing the development, the lawmakers identified the affected persons as Basiru Kofa of Bebeji Local Government, Abba Buzu, Chairman of Rogo Local Government as well as Bello Gadanya of Bagwai council, the trio to be out of office for three months, as also stated by the Special Adviser to Governor Abba Yussuf on New Media, Ibrahim Adam.
”The Chairmen of Bebeji, Rogo and Bagwai Local Government Areas have been suspended from office for three months by the Kano State House of Assembly,” said Adam on Tuesday.
The suspension came after the legislative House adopted the report of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs during plenary, following its presentation by the committee chairman, Hon. Aliyu Muhammad. The session was presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgore uncovering allegations that public funds allocated for development projects in Bagwai Local Government Area were diverted or improperly managed.
For Bebeji Local Government, the committee reported alleged abuse of office, repeated breaches of procurement procedures, questionable contract awards and execution, illegal disposal of council-owned land, diversion of public funds and unauthorised deductions from contractors’ payments.
It also alleged that some contractors were directed to pay contract funds into bank accounts reportedly designated by the council chairman, an action the committee said contravened existing financial and procurement regulations.
Regarding Rogo Local Government, the committee accused the chairman of disregarding government directives, flouting administrative rules, abusing the powers of his office and mismanaging funds earmarked for feeder road and rural electrification projects serving the Unguwar Dawa and Hausawa Fulani communities.
