The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has denied reports of a suspension of passport services, assuring Nigerians that passport application and biometric capture remain fully operational nationwide despite recent changes to its production process.
The Service explained that the migration of additional passport branches to the Central Personalization Centre is an administrative measure aimed at strengthening security, improving efficiency, and aligning Nigeria’s passport production system with international best practices rather than halting services.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms on Wednesday, the NIS said the initiative is part of ongoing reforms to enhance service delivery and modernise passport issuance across the country.
It stressed that applicants can continue to visit their designated passport centres to complete biometric data capture without any disruption, noting that only the passport booklet production process has been centralised.
According to the Service, the centralised production framework is designed to meet global security standards, streamline processing timelines, and further protect the integrity of the Nigerian passport by ensuring stricter control over the personalisation process.
The NIS also assured citizens that all biometric capture centres remain fully operational, adding that passport booklets produced at the Central Personalization Centre will be dispatched promptly to the respective local commands for collection within the standard delivery timeframe.
The Service urged applicants and members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that passport services had been suspended, reiterating its commitment to delivering secure, efficient and seamless passport services nationwide
