How to Apply for the UK Chevening Scholarship 2026 for Nigerians

The UK government has launched applications for the UK Chevening Scholarship 2026, which offer fully funded master’s degree opportunities at universities throughout the UK for developing leaders and professionals from around the world.

The UK Government announced on Monday that applications for the prestigious scholarship programme will be accepted from August 4 to October 6, 2026, and that the initiative is aimed at individuals with strong leadership potential, influence, and networking skills who are committed to driving sustainable development and addressing global challenges.

The initiative, which is supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, offers successful applicants access to world-class education, professional networks, and lasting connections through the worldwide Chevening community.

Emma Hennessey, Head of the Scholarships Unit at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), stated:

“Chevening is searching for extraordinary people who are willing to work with the UK to create a more resilient, prosperous, and sustainable future. We are committed to developing a diverse and inclusive cohort of global future leaders, and we are especially interested in applications from underrepresented groups.

“Our scholars and fellows are chosen not just for their accomplishments, but also for their leadership potential, capacity to form important connections, and dedication to making a long-term influence in their communities and around the world.

“Through access to UK education, networks, and experiences, Chevening provides future leaders with the tools and connections they need to address common worldwide concerns.

“I encourage anyone considering applying to reflect carefully on Chevening’s vision and purpose, and on how their own experiences and ambitions align with the impact our global community is working to achieve.”

Jonny Baxter, British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, also spoke, describing Chevening as more than just a scholarship programme, emphasizing that it allows scholars to join a global network of leaders devoted to positive change.

“Chevening is much more than just a scholarship to study in the UK. It is an opportunity to join a global network of great leaders dedicated to making a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

“A world-class education, exposure to UK values and culture, and lasting links with the UK and Chevening alumni provide scholars with the knowledge, skills, and networks required to confront today’s most pressing challenges and achieve sustainable development.

“If you have a clear vision for making a meaningful impact in areas of shared priority between Nigeria and the UK, I encourage you to apply and take the next step in your leadership journey.”

According to the statement, potential students should read the program’s vision and qualifying conditions before applying through the Chevening portal.

Since its inception in 1983, Chevening has supported over 60,000 professionals from over 140 nations and territories, establishing a global network of alumni in positions of leadership in government, business, academia, and civil society.
