A high-profile reunion unfolded in Ogun State when Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) abruptly paused his performance to fully prostrate before former President Olusegun Obasanjo during the 60th birthday celebration of the Olota of Ota, Oba (Prof.) Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege.
As Obasanjo stepped onto the stage, K1 immediately halted his set and lowered himself completely to the floor, honoring the former president with the traditional Yoruba sign of deep reverence to an elder.
Obasanjo acknowledged the dramatic gesture by walking over to pat the Fuji star on the back before taking the microphone to address the audience, signaling a warm public resolution to their long-standing estrangement.
The encounter attracted the attention of guests and has since generated reactions across social media.
For years, K1 had identified with the political camp of President Bola Tinubu, openly expressing his support for the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In 2026, for instance, the Fuji star used one of his performances to urge Nigerians, particularly Yoruba people, to support Tinubu’s bid for another term.
His political alignment has often placed him on a different side from Obasanjo, whose relationship with Tinubu has itself been characterised by sharp political disagreements.
K1’s history with the former President goes beyond political differences.
Per Second News recalls at various points how the Fuji musician 0used his music to take swipes at Obasanjo, including a 2018 song titled Letter to Mr Obasanjo, in which he criticised the former President over issues concerning the country.
Reports and archival references also documented occasions when the musician appeared to deliberately distance himself from Obasanjo at public gatherings.
That background makes Friday night’s encounter particularly striking.
Standing before the man he had previously criticised publicly, K1 did not hesitate to fall completely to the ground in a gesture that, in Yoruba culture, carries a profound message of respect for age and status.
Obasanjo’s response also helped soften the moment.
His pat on K1’s back appeared to signal acceptance of the gesture, turning what could have been an awkward encounter into one of the most talked-about moments of the celebration.
