Emergency responders have rescued two residents trapped after a one-storey building collapsed in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The victims had been inside the ground floor when the right segment of the residential structure suddenly caved in, leaving them trapped beneath the rubble.
It was gathered that the collapse occurred at Kubwa 2/2, near Yellow Page, at about 11:30am on Friday, with the affected property made up of six blocks of flats.
The Head of Media and Public Relations of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa, confirmed the incident in a statement.
She said FEMD received a distress call at 11:38am and promptly mobilised its rescue team to the scene.
Isa said the rescued residents were taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where they were receiving treatment and remained in stable condition.
She noted that other occupants were away when the collapse occurred, helping to limit the number of people exposed to the danger.
Also, the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command joined the emergency response.
Both agencies have since begun steps to determine what led to the structural failure.
Although no fatality was recorded, the collapse caused substantial damage to personal belongings and household items.
