The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested an Edo State-based spiritualist, Odigie Moses, over the alleged sextortion of an Indian woman to the tune of $1,100.
Moses, who describes himself as a spiritualist, was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, after allegedly deceiving the woman into believing that he could provide spiritual intervention for some life-threatening challenges she was facing.
According to the EFCC on Friday, the suspect presented himself as possessing spiritual healing powers and subsequently persuaded the woman to undergo a naked spiritual bath.
The EFCC said Moses recorded the ritual live without the woman’s permission and later threatened to release the video publicly unless she paid him money.
The woman eventually paid $1,100 to prevent the suspect from releasing the video, according to the anti-graft agency.
The EFCC said its investigation established that the payment was made after Moses allegedly used the recorded video to blackmail the victim.
The agency said Moses would be charged to court after the conclusion of its investigation.
